I've been trying to write lately, and I realize that I've always kinda been a down/pensive mood song person. It's not that I always feel down or I enjoy feeling down, but I guess I relate more easily to the mood that a down song creates. To illustrate what I mean by down or pensive, think more "The Scientist" than "Strawberry Swing" (Coldplay)... or more "Keep Breathing" than "Be OK" (Ingrid Michaelson)... or more "Field Below" than "Fidelity" (Regina Spektor). I could go on and I know some of these references are obscure, but basically I'm talking about leaning more towards songs that lie back in the beat vs. those that are more upbeat.... more those songs that take on the heavy material than those that are lighthearted.
ANYHOW, for whatever reason, I've found it easier to write similarly mood-ed songs (the slower or more contemplative kind) than upbeat songs. I like to think that I could write any style that I would want to, but I have to be at least somewhat honest and admit that some styles are more difficult to write than others. I've been trying to work on doing more upbeat stuff, but oddly enough my ideas always find their ways to slower beats. Oh well... it's always a work in progress, isn't it?

Are you sure this blog isn't dead? I think it may be, and perhaps the cause was a broken heart. After all, it seems the reason you left for so long was a brief yet intense affair with the Yee Man's Sports Blog. So now I must ask: With whom are you cheating on it now?
